Pueblo State Fish Hatchery and the Native Species Restoration Facility, Alamosa, CO

Nature of Work:
Design and design assistance for well construction.

Project Description:
JR Engineering was awarded a contract to supply design and geophysical services for new production wells at the Pueblo State Fish Hatchery and the Native Species Restoration Facility in Alamosa Colorado .

The water resource group at JR worked in conjunction with Microgeophysics, Inc. to provide an electrical resistivity survey to determine lateral and vertical distributions of sands and gravels conductive to producing ground water near the Arkansas River adjacent to the Pueblo facility. JR Engineering drilled test holes based on the geophysical survey to verify probable locations for production wells. JR prepared design sheets and specifications for use in the bidding of the Pueblo Hatchery production well No. 4. In addition, JR provided all survey support, directed well-site sampling, construction supervision, well development and production testing of Pueblo Hatchery No. 4 well.  The well was completed in August 2002, and is capable of production in excess of 1000 gallons per minute.

JR also worked toward the design of a deep, artesian production well at the Native Aquatic Species Restoration Facility in Alamosa , Colorado . The work entailed using cased-hole geophysical logging techniques in existing Hatchery wells to establish geology and drilling targets beneath the facility. The acquired data has provided critical information for well design and aquifer parameters. JR designed the well and the attendant conveyance / treatment facilities and will provide drilling and well-site observation.
