Transportation/ Public Works Project

Bobtail Street, Through-Arch Steel Truss Bridge,
Black Hawk, CO

Nature of Work:
Civil engineering, bridge design, and construction inspection.

Project Description:

The basic scope of this unique bridge project involved the feasibility study and design of a two-lane roadway and bridge to relieve traffic congestion on Gregory and Main Street as well as to provide access to parking structures for casinos.

The bridge design included a rust-in-place steel through-arch truss bridge to span the 125-foot unnamed gulch. The two-lane, single span steel structure was designed to fit into the rustic mining atmosphere of the historic City of Black Hawk . In addition, the design involved Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls, rock bolting and shotcreting of soil and rock faces to provide a stable environment. To compliment JR Engineering's design and project quality control, JR Engineering provided construction observation services to the City of Black Hawk .
