Project Overview: The City of Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) have contracted with JR Engineering, LLC to provide design services for median improvements at the Austin Bluffs Pkwy and Rangewood Drive intersection. The improvements are intended to improve safety for vehicles turning into and out of Rangewood Drive. Currently eastbound Rangewood Drive left turning vehicles are having trouble making left turns due to roadway geometry, grades, and speeds. A T-shaped median in the center of the intersection will allow turning vehicles from Rangewood to rest in the median and merge into northbound Austin Bluffs when a gap allows, essentially crossing Austin Bluffs Pkwy half at a time. Project Description: Improvements will include a raised concrete median in place of the current striped median. The median will provide a left turn bay for northbound Austin Bluffs Pkwy to westbound Rangewood Drive. The median will also provide a protected area for vehicles turning from Rangewood Drive to accelerate onto northbound Austin Bluffs Pkwy. Lane striping will be replaced through out the project and appropriate signage will be added to inform drivers of the median and merging traffic. |
